Breaking Cycles, Building Futures

Why I Started Generation Mend

Hey y’all, I’m Dr. Siemone Smith—therapist, mommy, and self-proclaimed generation mender. If you’re reading this, you might be curious about therapy, wondering what “generational healing” even means, or maybe just procrastinating while your coffee gets cold (no judgment—I’ve been there).

Here’s the thing: we all inherit something. Maybe it’s your grandma’s sweet potato pie recipe. Maybe it’s your dad’s quick temper. Maybe it’s your mom’s tendency to say “we don’t talk about that.” Family legacies show up in how we parent, how we argue, how we love, and sometimes in ways that leave us feeling stuck.

That’s why I started Generation Mend. I didn’t want to create just another therapy practice—I wanted a space where people, especially families of color, could pause, breathe, and rewrite the stories they’ve been handed. Healing isn’t about pretending the past didn’t happen. It’s about deciding it doesn’t get the final say.

What makes Generation Mend different is how we see the whole picture. We start with the earliest relationships—those first bonds that shape how we understand love, safety, and belonging. We honor culture and identity, because your story deserves to be seen in full color, not squeezed into someone else’s box. And we do it all with a mix of honesty, care, and reflection—because quick fixes don’t last, but repair and restoration do.

So, what do we actually do here?

  • Therapy: for individuals, couples, and families who want healthier, more connected relationships.
  • Workshops & Training: for schools, healthcare teams, and organizations tired of surface-level “fixes” and ready for real reflection.
  • Consultation & Supervision: for practitioners who give so much to others and need a space to be poured into, too.

And at the center of it all is the MEND Model—my framework for relational healing that helps people look inward, connect outward, and grow together.

Why it matters (and why now)

Life is heavy, fast, and full of pressure. But the way forward isn’t grinding harder—it’s reconnecting: to ourselves, to each other, to the kind of futures we actually want to pass down.

Or as I like to say: we don’t just break cycles, we build better ones.

So whether you’re here as a parent, a professional, or just someone who knows they don’t want to keep living the same story on repeat—welcome. This is your invitation to pause, reflect, and maybe even laugh a little along the way.

Because healing is serious work… but that doesn’t mean we can’t smile while we do it.

Ok, Let's Talk
